Seorae Korean Charcoal BBQ Opens At Tampines Mall

For K-food lovers craving for Korean BBQ in the East, good news, as Seorae has opened its 3rd and largest outlet at Tampines Mall basement.

Its first two branches are located at Plaza Singapura and JEM.

Seorae is the first Korean BBQ specialty restaurant in Singapore that offer the signature Korean Galmaegisal, also known as the ‘wagyu’ of pork.

This Tampines Mall outlet (next to Putien) is modern and large, spacious enough for families and small group gatherings, while maintaining social distance.

The restaurant preserves the original taste of Korean BBQ with the use of quality charcoal.

However, you can still enjoy BBQing in air-conditioned comfort without getting the smoky smell on your clothes due to the special ventilation system.

For recommendations, you can also go for the Ultimate Mix Set priced at $98++, good for 2 (hungry) to 3 diners.

This includes 7 items of Galmaegisal, Samgyeobsal, LA Galbi, Woosamgyeob, Sundubu Jjigae with rice, Japchae (Pork) and Bibimbab. Value for its money as the whole set is worth 25% OFF the usual prices.

Here’s more on the items you can find in Seorae’s Ultimate Mix Set: (I have also included the prices of each in the event you want to order them ala carte.)

Galmaegisal – Signature US Pork Skirt ($21.90 for 170 grams ala carte order)
Galmaegisal is a premium meat cut found between the ribs and the belly of the pig, an extension of the sirloin.

Weighing only 250g in every full-grown pig, it is once said this special meat cut is reserved only for the Korean royalty of the past.

Today, you can find it on your grill in Seorae.

Before serving, the meats are carefully marinated with spices and massaged for at least half an hour to elevate the prized meat’s texture and taste.

When grilled, the Galmaegisal takes on the characteristics of Wagyu beef – good lean meat and very little fats, yet superbly tender with a succulent bite. If you have never tried it before in a Korean BBQ restaurant, you MUST.

Tip: Top up $2 for 4 rounds of cheese on grill.

Samgyeobsal – Original Pork Belly ($17.90 for 150 grams ala carte order)
This pork belly is a delightful 3-layered meat which is perhaps the standard order to have.

After grilling (properly), there is a nice crisp on the outer layer while the inside remains succulent with a good layer of fats.

I would recommend cutting them to long strips after grilling, then wrapped within a cool lettuce, dipped with a touch of specially made sweetish Gochujang sauce.

LA Galbi – US Prime Beef Bone-In Short Ribs ($29.90 for 200 grams ala carte order)
LA Galbi (galbi means ribs in Korean) is a US Prime beef short-ribs cut across the bones. Similar to other meats for Korean BBQ, it is sliced thinly you may not recognize them as “ribs”.

This is also listed down by CNN as one of the top 50 World Most Delicious Food.

These bone-in short ribs are marinated overnight so that it is packed with flavour. After grilling, it has a sweetish tinge and a soft tender bite.

Woosamgyeob – US Beef Shortplate ($22.90 for 150 grams ala carte order)
Woosamgyeob is thinly sliced beef belly, also known as the plate of beef. It is the forequarter cut from the belly of the cow, just below the rib, typically a fatty meat.

Its special marinade imparts a mild sweet and savoury taste in the meat, with a nice herbal taste.

You do not need to cook this meat too long, so that this stays juicy and retains the moisture.

If you want a meat that is not too heavy and just mild in taste, then the Woosamgyeob is recommended.

Sundubu Jjigae – Spicy Tofu Stew with Clams and Minced Pork ($14.90 for ala carte order)
Served in a traditional Korean ddukbaegi (hot pot) and filled to the brim, the star of this stew is the silken tofu that is velvety soft on the tongue.

It is accompanied with other ingredients like clams and minced pork, plus some enoki mushrooms and an egg yolk for a comforting finish.

Japchae – Korean Stir-Fried Rice Noodles with Pork ($14.90)
Traditional Korean rice noodle stir fried with pork with fresh vegetables – I liked that there was quite a bit of greens.

Flavourful, with right balance of soy sauce and sugar.

Bibimbab
This Korean dish is prepared slightly differently from the usual Bibimbab, with vegetables and fried sunny side-up served in a stainless-steel bowl.

Complete the DIY process: pour in the bowl of steamed rice, add in a special sauce and give it a good mix.
